Ratings: ‘Arrow’ surges for 100th episode; ‘Survivor,’ ‘Designated Survivor,’ and ‘black-ish’ all on the rise
For the second straight day, we’re starting off a ratings piece by discussing the latest goings-on with The CW and their superhero crossover. Given the ratings for this thing so far, not to mention how awesome it’s been for the most part, this is one of the most exciting things numbers-wise that we’ve seen for the network in some time.
Also, we’re starting to feel like if executives could make every episode contain a crossover in some shape or form, they probably would.
CBS – Let’s dive into sharing the numbers with “Survivor,” which recovered nicely to a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic after falling hard during the epic pre-Thanksgiving episode. This is still the lowest-rated season on record, but don’t worry: The show isn’t going anywhere. For the time being, we’d also say the same thing about “Criminal Minds,” which rose slightly to a 1.4. Meanwhile, “Code Black” (1.0) is the show you really should be more worried about.
NBC – “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” drew this year a 1.7 rating, while the “Coat of Many Colors” special “Circle of Love” brought in a 1.8. Both specials drew more than 10 million viewers, so this was a victory almost any way you choose to slice it.
ABC – The great news for “Designated Survivor” is that it stopped some of the bleeding and rose upward to a 1.3 rating on the night. While “The Goldbergs” (1.7), “Speechless” (1.7), and “Modern Family” (2.2) were all down, “black-ish” (1.8) actually improved versus its most-recent episode.
Fox – “Empire” won the night with a 2.8, but continues to fall more and more back to Earth after starting out as a breakout hit series that nothing else could really touch. “Lethal Weapon,” meanwhile, slipped down to a 1.6.
The CW – Finally, let’s get back to the crossover, which also happened to be the 100th episode of “Arrow” at the same time. This drew a 1.3, the show’s best rating of the season by a mile. It didn’t help “Frequency,” as that series continued to draw just a 0.3.
