‘Empire’ season 3, episode 8 preview: Andre’s latest act in ‘The Unkindest Cut’
To say that the past few episodes of “Empire” have shown us a new side of the Andre Lyon character would be making one of the grossest understatements ever. He is so invested in this point in seizing power within the company that he’s willing to go so far as to initiate a hack of it, just so that he can swoop in and play White Knight. He may not be talented musically, but he’s showing some power and hustle that is almost unparalleled in anyone other than his parents. he’s also got another motivation for doing all of this, and that is boosting the career of Nessa over anyone else at the label.
Suffice it to say, all early indications suggest that we’ll be seeing such an act at the center of next week’s “The Unkindest Cut,” at least based on the information that is out there.
Synopsis – “Andre sabotages Tiana’s big appearance at a fashion event in an attempt to get Nessa into the spotlight. Meanwhile, Tariq works with Leah to try to bring down Lucious, and Jamal works with Philip to get over his PTSD.”
The idea of someone trying to take Lucious down is a tale as old as time (yes, cue the “Beauty and the Beast” singers out there), so we’ll be shocked if it goes anywhere at all. Meanwhile, you can say the same for any story about people wanting to snag power at Empire, but at the same time what makes this a little different is that Andre’s methodical rather than emotional. Him trying to get power is very different than Hakeem trying to get power, so if he finds what he wants, it may be a little bit trickier to get it back from him. It’s something for us to keep in mind, but the other characters won’t see it coming.
Promo – A few quick highlights from this, starting with this message: Clearly, Lucious is going to mean some serious business in this episode, including going to some pretty violent ends. Meanwhile, Cookie’s going to start to wonder precisely what sort of man Andre’s understandably started to turn into.
