‘Call the Midwife’ Christmas Special spoilers: New photo featuring Helen George, Charlotte Ritchie

Trixie -

We’re just about in the thick of the holiday season, and if you live in Great Britain, this means for the most part one thing more than anything else: A chance to celebrate via some holiday specials!

Specifically, we are talking instead about the upcoming Christmas Special of “Call the Midwife” that is coming in just over a month, and we’ve got the first photo of the big installment above! This one features front and center Helen George’s Trixie and Charlotte Ritchie’s Barbara doing their part to make life better for some locals in South Africa. She and some other characters are going to be traveling down from Nonnatus with one key purpose, and that is doing everything within their power in order to ensure that they can find a way to help people in a time of great need. There are limited resources, and with that, it will test the ability of the midwives more so than at any point over the course of the series to date.

With that being said, we have a hard time thinking that we are going to see too much that is different here when it comes to the actual tone of the show. We figure that there will still be some moments of hope sprinkled in here with a little bit of heartache. It’s a bittersweet series at times with bittersweet messages, but given that this is Christmas, we have a feeling that it will be at least slightly more hopeful than much of what we’ve seen on the show during the season proper.

The Christmas Special will be followed by the upcoming sixth season, which is currently slated to premiere in the early going of 2017.
