‘Elementary’ season 5, episode 7 preview: Joan and Shinwell’s latest struggle
“Elementary” tonight on CBS is bringing to you a story that is all about the culinary arts — sort of. Really, what you’re getting is one of the more complicated cases surrounding a number of people who are found dead because of some snake venom that is found in some food.
So where do we go from here? Basically, next week’s new episode is entitled “Bang Bang Shoot Chute,” which may be one of funnier episode titles that we’ve seen in a rather long time. The episode itself of course has a serious matter at the center of it courtesy of a shocking murder, which is particularly odd in that it seems to be that there were two people who wanted him dead at roughly the same exact time.
Synopsis – “Holmes and Watson search for two murderers after a base jumper is shot out of the sky by one killer, and has his parachute sabotaged by another. Also, after Joan’s sister, Lin (Samantha Quan),thinks she sees Shinwell with a member of his old gang, Joan takes drastic measures to make sure he won’t be drawn back into a life of crime.”
The Shinwell story once again should prove rather interesting mostly because he’s got such a difficult history, and in general, his story is one that is very different from what you tend to get across most of network television. We often get such a singular presentation of criminals on television, to the point where the easy assumption to make is that they are incapable of change and evolution. We know that’s not the case, and hopefully Shinwell continues to be an interesting example of that and someone who challenges perceptions within this particular universe.
At the very least, Shinwell creates an interesting dilemma for Sherlock in this world given that he’s someone who takes some of Joan’s attention away, and he has to struggle to determine how he feels about about it.
