Is ‘Chicago Fire’ season 5, episode 5 new tonight? More on Dawson, Antonio’s parents
Tonight is typically “Chicago Fire” night on NBC, given that this is when you tend to see new episodes of the show play out on a weekly basis. Heck, you even saw a new episode play out last week despite the World Series (ironically featuring the Chicago Cubs) playing out. This is a particularly strong season to date, and one buoyed in part in the ratings thanks to airing after “This Is Us,” one of the biggest hits of the fall season to date.
Unfortunately, you’re not getting new episodes of either series tonight, and for a simple reason: It’s Election Night! Even if we’re starting to get a final tally as to the winner at around the time the show is supposed to air, there’ll be a lot of time for reactions and speeches across the board then. What there’s not going to be a lot of time to air any scripted programming, and you don’t want to compete against much of that anyway.
We’ve detailed in the past a few different things that are coming up for the show a little bit later in the season, whether they be backstory on Boden being in New York during September 11 to more exploration into character relationships to major tension between Severide and Casey over the handling of an investigation. For the sake of this article, we want to give you something substantial in the form of the first details from “Lift Each Other,” the upcoming November 29 installment of the show:
“It’s a family reunion when Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Antonio’s (guest star Jon Seda) mother and father come to Chicago for their big anniversary party, but things quickly turn south. When a deep secret comes to the surface involving his stepson James (guest star Juan Lozada), Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) decides to take matters into his own hands. Meanwhile, Casey (Jesse Spencer) tries to save a young boy during a harrowing call to a warehouse and Otis (Joe Minoso) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) become competitive at the mud-hundred race.”
One fun little Easter egg we can give you about this episode is that Seda was effectively working on three different shows at the time of filming this. He was also working on his transition over from “Chicago PD” to “Chicago Justice,” which is where he will be a regular when that starts early next year.
