‘The Good Wife’ spin-off ‘The Good Fight’ will have plenty of Gary Cole

If you were at all concerned that Gary Cole was going to be too busy to appear in “The Good Wife’s” upcoming CBS All Access spin-off “The Good Fight,” we come bearing good news: The casting is absolutely happening!

Sources confirm that Cole will recur on the spin-off as Kurt McVeigh, Diane’s husband and a shrewd businessman very much involved in the world of ballistics. Cole had a presence off and on throughout the series, and we wonder now if his appearances will be somewhat free-wheeling and sporadic similar to what Chris Noth did on “The Good Wife” proper as Peter.

The one reason we were slightly concerned about Cole’s future with this series was because of his large role over on HBO’s “Veep,” where he plays the part of former Selina Meyer adviser Kent. (We’re at least presuming that he still has a role over there.) What may assist him in allowing him to do several different things in that “Veep” only films so many months out of the year, and at the same exact time this is too meaty a role to pass up. We just assume that Kurt has a decent role here given that Christine Baranski is headlining this show alongside Cush Jumbo. Sarah Steele is also returning from the original show, and they will be joined by many newcomers including “Game of Thrones” alum Rose Leslie, who is playing the part of Diane’s goddaughter.

“The Good Wife” will first premiere on CBS proper in the new year as a way to hype things up leading over to its arrival on CBS All Access, where the remainder of season 1 will air. This is a tremendous risk and it’s a little early to tell precisely how it will all work out. Still, we are certainly excited to find out!
