‘Shiptober: Should ‘Supergirl’ season 2 pair up Alex, Maggie together?
Mrs. Carter: Do we have our next big romance coming on “Supergirl“?
On Monday night’s new episode of the CBS show we got a first look at Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima), a detective responsible for investigating alien activity in National City. She knows more about the alien underground than most, and we’ve also learned a little bit of her romantic history in the process. She and Alex certainly have some sort of connection, but should it become something more in the coming episodes? That’s what the show has to figure out, and it is also the focus of the latest article in our ongoing ‘Shiptober article series.
The case for Maggie and Alex – The biggest reason to hope for the two parties getting together is merely one of convenience. Both parties are single, and with Kara and James seemingly no more, there may not be another romance coming up in the near future. Alex is someone who needs something that is strictly hers. She spends so much of her life protecting her sister, so having a love interest who cares for her first would be incredibly significant for her. Even if you don’t buy into this couple right away, at the same time you have to acknowledge that it would be nice for Alex to find some sort of love for herself in the future.
The case against them – The biggest thing that you could argue, perhaps even successfully, right now is that there simply has not been enough time to really explore this just yet. We don’t know what Alex’s feelings towards Maggie really are just yet, and the show hasn’t even really touched on her sexuality too much as of yet. We’re certainly for the idea of the relationship, but it will probably be the strongest if the show takes its time with the two of them rather than rushing into anything. Otherwise, it feels like the show giving Alex a relationship simply for the sake of doing so.
