‘Dancing with the Stars 23’ postmortem: Why Maureen McCormick, Artem Chigvintsev were eliminated
“Dancing with the Stars” on Monday continued its trend of fairly-predictable eliminations by sending home Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev — even if this was not the elimination that we wanted to see. Just like any other reality competition show, it’s always easiest to root for the people you genuinely think want to be there taking part in the show. We got the sense that she was a huge fan and that being a part of the show was a dream come true for here; therefore, seeing her have to leave the ballroom was bittersweet and then some.
So what ultimately happened to get her to this point? In the latest edition of our postmortem articles, we’ve got a few theories as to precisely what happened.
1. Lower scores – This is ultimately what dooms many a pro, and after posting some strong totals for a little while, Maureen started to show some more struggles the past week or two. You can argue that the physical and mental demands were starting to take her toll, and some other Stars were simply able to improve faster.
2. Less buzz – While the former “Brady Bunch” actress has her fair share of fans, she’s not getting the same sort of publicity as someone like Ryan Lochte — sometimes, any publicity is good publicity, and he’s gotten his fair share of that as of late. We specifically mention him here because he and Maureen had similar scores on the competition, and it was therefore the public who determined her fate more than anyone else.
3. Partner popularity – Artem’s a great teacher, but we do think that pros carry with them followings and his is probably less than someone like a Val Chmerkovskiy or a Derek Hough, who have both been the show for a much longer period of time. Sometimes, the little things can tip the scales in one way or another.
