‘Saturday Night Live’: Benedict Cumberbatch to host, Solange to perform November 5
Tonight, Tom Hanks is hosting “Saturday Night Live,” and what makes this rather notable is that this is the final show in a four-week run that the show has been on the air. This is a rarity for the series to do this, but we get it. Why wouldn’t you want to milk the Presidential Debates for every bit of comedy that you could?
Now, why don’t we spend a minute or so to look towards the future of the show on the air? There is no new episode next week, and we hoped during the broadcast that we would either get an announcement as to the future host or some sort of indication as to when the show would be back.
Well, we now know both! On November 5, Benedict Cumberbatch is the host. Meanwhile, Solange will be the musical guest.
We can’t speak so much for Solange as the performer for the episode, but we do have to say that we love the choice of the “Sherlock” and “Doctor Strange” star to host, given that we know him to have a really great sense of humor, and he’s the sort of person who will probably come out and do a wide array of different things for the show. He’s also one of those people who the internet will immediately embrace, and there aren’t always hosts on this show that produce that sort of effect.
Given the timing of this gig, though, we imagine that a “Doctor Strange” parody is more likely than a “Sherlock” one — if the show manages to do both, we may give a high-five to everyone we see in the street for a good week or so.
