‘The Voice UK’ spoilers: New twist will adds extra layer of harshness to series
The upcoming season of “The Voice UK” is officially bringing back Tom Jones and will have Gavin Rossdale and Jennifer Hudson on board alongside will.i.am; now, we’ve also got word that the show will be busting out what is by most accounts a fairly devastating twist to go along with it.
Speaking per Digital Spy, show host Emma Willis revealed that for the first time in the series’ UK history (it hasn’t happened on the American version, either), artists who don’t receive a chair turn from the coaches don’t have a chance to even meet the panel:
“I think it is good – they do it in other territories on ‘The Voice’ around the world, and it instigates different chat between the coaches.
“When they see someone who hasn’t turned, it’s very apologetic. But if they haven’t seen that person and don’t have to interact directly, it’s a bit more ‘that was a little bit off-key’, which they might not have said having seen them. So I think it’s a good thing for the show.”
We like this move only because it saves us from further coach pandering, which is a routine problem with this entire franchise. There is such a fear that being honest will alienate a fan following, and therefore few people ever choose to go along with them. We don’t really think this twist completely fixed the problem that is present here with this show; instead, we think the primary issue is that you need to empower your coaches to be more blunt, and find a way to legitimately make people better artists. Otherwise, the only thing you are doing is spinning your wheels and not allowing artists to really get better.
