Ratings: ‘This Is Us’ overtakes ‘The Voice’; ‘NCIS,’ ‘Bull’ falls; ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ – ‘New Girl’ crossover low

There’s a lot to talk about in terms of the ratings for Tuesday night, but we have to say that when looking at the numbers as a whole, there is not necessarily a lot of great news out there other than a few shows. Let’s focus on them first.

The winners – For “This Is Us,” we’re getting more and more of a sense that this is a runaway hit and the top show for this fall. With a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, it’s actually the #1 show of the night and even toppled “The Voice” (2.5) on NBC. We cannot remember the last time a show airing after the singing show scored a better rating than it, at least for new episodes. This performance also seemed to help “Chicago Fire” (1.8) retain its entire premiere rating from last year.

Over on ABC, there was also some good news courtesy of “American Housewife” premiering with a respectable 1.8 rating. We’re not sure those ratings will stay high week-to-week, but it’s a nice start. “The Middle” (1.7) did okay in its new timeslot, “Fresh Off the Boat” (1.5) kept its previous premiere number, and even “Agents of SHIELD” was steady. Not a bad night for the alphabet network.

The losers – The biggest one is The CW for having an almost-instant flop in “No Tomorrow.” Despite the positive vibes around the show, it’s struggling to get people watching even after “The Flash.” Sure, that show dropped last night to a 1.0 rating, but “No Tomorrow” mustered only a 0.3 rating, which could inspire some pretty tacky commentary about how there may not be a tomorrow for this show moving forward.

Also, more bad news on the CBS front: “NCIS” (1.7), “Bull” (1.6), and “NCIS: New Orleans” each declined versus some recent numbers. Despite the hype, the crossover between “New Girl” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” only managed a 0.9.
