‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Don’t expect Oliver / Felicity reconciliation anytime soon

OliverFor those of you who are Olicity ‘shippers out there in the “Arrow” universe, we hope that you are the patient type. It doesn’t seem a though we’re going to get any further updates on this relationship at any point in the future beyond where they currently stand.

Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Wendy Mericle was cagey on the couple’s future, saying that “we’re not necessarily going to see them reconcile this season … [But] I think there will always be lingering feelings between these two.” In some ways, it does make sense why this reconciliation, if it ever happens, would not be immediate. Think back to everything that happened over the course of season 4, including Oliver’s decision to keep his secret child from her. That is the sort of decision that is hard to come back from, since it damage trust in a significant way.

If she was to try and take him back, there would have to be signs of real change from him, and we’re not sure Oliver is there yet. After all, this is a guy closing himself off even more from emotion, and is resorting now to killing again after seeing Laurel Lance die as a result of what he perceives to be his decision to not kill Damien Darhk when he had an opportunity to do so. He’s not exactly in a romantic place.

One other thing standing in the couple’s way is Felicity having a new love interest (Tyler Ritter), someone who is different from Oliver in many ways. How much he knows about her secret “job” remains to be seen, but we’re absolutely excited to have some further information on that come out.
