‘Arrow’ season 5, episode 2 preview: Early word on ‘The Recruits’
Tonight on “Arrow” season 5, the rebirth-of-sorts of Oliver Queen will hit the airwaves. This is a man impacted tremendously by the events of last season, whether it be the murderous ways of Damien Darhk, being elected Mayor, or the end of his engagement to Felicity Smoak. Losing John Diggle, recovering from the death of his brother, to the military does not help things, and he finally comes to terms with the notion of help after spending some of the premiere isolated and aggressive to anyone who comes towards him. He’s one man in a city full of faces; he’s not The Flash, and cannot run from one place to the next in the blink of an eye. (Otherwise, it’d be called “The Green Blur” … or something like that.)
Moving into next week’s “The Recruits,” we’ve got our team for the moment: Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez), Evelyn Sharp (Madison McLaughlin), and Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum). These three, along with Oliver, are the Justice League for Star City without the name. Also, without much of the training. Wild Dog doesn’t know how to take orders, Curtis is still exceptionally green, and we’ve learned already on the show that Sharp has a knack for being unpredictable.
Also, Oliver’s training methods can be a little extreme. Per some details released in advance by The CW, he may go a little too hard in creating “teachable moments.”
As for the flashback story, be prepared to see Oliver continue to become immersed into the Bravta, something that we feel will have a tremendous impact in due time.
Promo analysis – This one is fun, but it’s not quite giving you any further information other than a “green” joke from Felicity that feels perfect for Kermit the Frog.
