‘NCIS’ season 14, episode 3 tributes showrunner Gary Glasberg with title card
Tuesday night’s new episode of “NCIS” ended on a particular emotional note, and one that many longtime viewers likely expected: It paid tribute to late showrunner Gary Glasberg, who shockingly died last year at the age of 50.
After the episode aired, CBS featured a title card that read a message more or less identical to the one released by the cast following the terrible news that came out:
“Gary was our rock, our cheerleader, our team captain. He inspired us with his leadership, his creative instincts and keen insight. NCIS will not be the same without him, and each of us will miss his smiling face and unwavering humor, which lifted us every day.”
Our heart still goes out to not only Gary’s friends and family, but anyone who knew and cared about him on the show.
We imagine that for the most part, one of the most difficult tasks for the cast and crew now is continuing to press on with production of the season, a task that may not be altogether easy when you consider how close many were to Glasberg. The show does have many capable writers and producers on board its staff, and without a doubt it will go on. The hope is that over time, they will continue to find a way to honor not only his memory, but his vision for what the show could be. There will be another new episode airing in one week’s time, but it could be weeks before the impact of the tragedy is felt with an episode onscreen. Many episodes are written far in advance.

When Gary died, they were filming episode 7. And episodes are written way in advance so if there is an impact, it may be in the middle of the season.
