‘Saturday Night Live’: What to expect from Margot Robbie, The Weeknd (video)
Tonight, “Saturday Night Live” is airing its season premiere, and based on the sneak peek below, we could be in for some fun. Sure, telling jokes about The Weeknd’s new hair is hardly revolutionary, but we’re glad to see that Margot Robbie appears to be excited to be there, and she’s having fun with Kenan Thompson and the cast.
So what do we expect to see from the premiere? It’s largely a combination of things.
1. Debate parodies – This is inevitable. “SNL” specifically cast Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump to get extra star power during the election cycle, and we expect to see him almost every week between now and the election. If Trump is elected, we imagine that Lorne Michaels will consider giving the role to someone in the cast — but we’re not there yet.
2. More The Weeknd puns – Be prepared for something similar to the Weeknd Update bit the last time he was on the show. He’s really good at the deadpan reactions! That’s what he does do here.
3. Some sort of Harley Quinn – “Suicide Squad” sketch – Given that “Suicide Squad” was a huge movie this summer, and there are probably 100 people in your given neighborhood going as Harley for Halloween, we’re sure that this is going to be brought up in some way.
Now, will there be a reference to departing cast members Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah? We’d hope so since they didn’t get a proper farewell in season 41, but we doubt it. The last thing “SNL” wants to do is remind people of what they’re missing.
