‘America’s Got Talent’ finale preview: The Clairvoyants, Jon Dorenbos, Grace VanderWaal face off
Tonight’s “America’s Got Talent” finale will crown the official winner for season 11, and based on everything we saw last night plus the results so far, this is really looking like a three-act race.
Just as we do with every other results preview, let’s do our best to narrow the list down. In starting the show Sal Valentinetti suffers from being forgotten, and the same goes for Sofie Dossi and, unfortunately, Linkin’ Bridge. Laura Bretan was fantastic following them, but at the same time “O mio babbino caro” may be one of the more overplayed opera songs out there; what made this performance different from the two or three others we’ve heard on this very show? She’s probably out of it.
This brings us down to just six acts. Brian Justin Crum’s final performance was a little too similar to his previous ones for our liking. Meanwhile, Viktor Kee falls victim to the simple fact that jugglers never win, even though what he did on the show was fantastic yet again. (People complaining about him making little mistakes have no clue how difficult it is to do what he does.)
This brings us to four acts who we think have a chance at this: Tape Face, The Clairvoyants, Jon Dorenbos, and Grace VanderWaal. While we love Tape Face and feel like his act was a vast improvement on the prior one, at the same exact time we’ve also seen him need the Dunkin’ Save to stay alive.
Personally, The Clairvoyants were the best of the night, and they gave what was one of the most well-constructed and thought-out performances we’ve ever seen in the finale. Based on that alone, they’d be our personal pick to win. Yet, at the same time we think that Grace still has the inside track since she A) performed last, B) has been the subject of most of the season’s hype, and C) receives extra credit for writing her own songs. She’d be a strong winner. Dorenbos also has a chance due to his skills and his inspirational speech last night.
Rest assured that we’ll be back later at this link with some more coverage of the big season finale! Meanwhile, sign up over here to secure some other TV news on everything we cover via our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
