‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: Talking the (ridiculous) ‘Wall of Songs’ twist
“The X Factor” is a show that does like to mix things up from time to time, and we are aware that there are some issues that come about when you get to the bootcamp stage. It’s arguably the hardest part to make exciting for the viewer, since you’re tasked with trying to narrow down the field even though you don’t care about the majority of the remaining acts.
Well, here is where the “Wall of Songs” twist comes into play. Per the Radio Times, this new twist to the series is going to revolve in part around something that feels fairly self-explanatory: A wall containing a wide array of different songs that the hopefuls can choose to belt out if they’re so inclined. The twist is that it is first-come, first-served, so the people who run over and pick their songs off the wall at bootcamp first get a small advantage … or do they? Sometimes, getting stuck with a song you are not comfortable with forces you out of your comfort zone, and there are some good things that can come out of that.
The major thing to not like about this twist is mostly that it is just going to force people to get involved in drama for no reason at all, and there’s nothing about this that is applicable to the music business after the fact. Someone’s obviously going to get into a fight and be remembered forever as the person who freaked out over a song.
Still, it may be better than the Six Chair Challenge — which is also coming up late this season. Ugh.
