‘Outlander’ season 3 video: First look at Sam Heughan on set

If you were not excited enough about “Outlander” season 3, what we’ve got for you today is another way to fan the flame!

In the video below released by the show’s official Twitter, Sam Heughan passes along a brief message before going off to battle. He’s got sword in hand, and you can almost imagine the scene with Jamie Fraser playing out in front of your eyes. (Of course, the sad reality is that you’re likely going to be waiting for many months still before Starz even releases the first trailer.) Think of this as a small delightful appetizer, and also a reminder of Scotland’s natural beauty to go along with it. The uniqueness of the setting is right up there with the quality of the writing and performances as one of the reasons why the show is so popular.

In terms of official details, Starz has kept most things on season 3 under lock and key. (Book readers certainly have an advantage here, given that they know the story is based on Voyager, the third novel in the Diana Gabaldon series.) So far the biggest move the network has made has been announcing the casting of Lord John Grey; we presume many more names will follow in the coming weeks.

As far as a premiere date, 2017 is the only thing we can say with certainty. We’d presume the show would air in the spring once more, given that this is what makes the most sense for the network given the schedule that they have already constructed.
