‘Feed the Beast’ canceled by AMC; season 2 hopes shot
There’s certainly some hard news coming out for everyone who enjoyed “Feed the Beast” through its short run over at AMC: It is already preparing now to walk its way into the sunset.
The network on Friday formally decided to cancel the series starring David Schwimmer after just one season, and the reasoning for it seems simple enough: Low ratings. The show fizzled with audiences, and never really got its footing with critics, either. Here is what they had to say on the subject in a statement:
“We have great respect and admiration for the entire team associated with Feed the Beast, starting with Clyde Phillips, David Schwimmer, Jim Sturgess and our studio partner, Lionsgate. We are thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with them and appreciative of their talents, dedication and care. Unfortunately, the show simply didn’t achieve the results needed to move forward with a second season.”
It is fairly hard to proclaim that we are surprised in any way with this result, mostly because of the sole fact that ratings were what they were for the vast majority of the show’s run. At a certain point, there’s only so much that the network could do — though we also understand very much that they could have tried even harder to give the show more lucrative timeslots. That’s just difficult given the time of year in which it premiered.
As with every other show, we really hope that AMC doesn’t look at the end result of “Feed the Beast” and think of it as an indictment on new ideas in the first place. We want to see the network continuing to cultivate new concepts, and not just relying on existing franchises.
