‘Once Upon a Time’ alum Sean Maguire lands new role on NBC’s ‘Timeless’
While it was sad to lose Sean Maguire from “Once Upon a Time” near the end of this past season, at the same exact time we’re happy to see that he has found a new venue for himself in a relatively short span of time.
So where is he now? As mentioned in the title and according to a report coming in from Entertainment Weekly, the actor has been tapped to play the role of James Bond author Ian Fleming on an upcoming episode of NBC’s new drama “Timeless” that will be set in Nazi Germany. Specifically, executive producer Eric Kripke passed along the following on his appearance:
“We knew we couldn’t just do a war movie, so where we landed was, ‘Alright, then let’s do a spy movie.’ We needed a spy in Germany to help our heroes and bring them into this world… and we turned to our historian, and he said, ‘Let me work on it,’ and then he comes running in the room an hour later and says, ‘Ian Fleming was there!’ So, quickly, we realized our World War II story was really a James Bond movie, and we had the real James Bond.”
This is certainly a serendipitous way to bring Fleming into the show, and we feel like Maguire will be able to bring a lot to the role. We also like that there are a few different muscles he’ll get a chance to flex here. One of the other great things about “Timeless” as a series is that thanks to the central premise of journeying through time in order to preserve the future, odds are that there will be several different opportunities over time to bring people back. Therefore, this may not be Sean’s last appearance in the slightest.
