‘Zoo’ renewed for season 3 by CBS; ‘Big Brother’ returning through season 20

Zoo -

Wednesday is CBS’ time to shine while at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, and they have taken it upon themselves to announce some renewals for some of their most-important summer shows.

Let’s start with “Zoo,” mostly because we’re rather surprised (but happy) that a season 3 was ordered so early. The ratings have dropped for the show this summer, but it is likely buoyed by a streaming deal with Netflix that has allowed their episodes to be turned over to them rather quickly.

Could we see this show have a long-lasting future that goes beyond three years on the air? We certainly hope so, but for the time being we’ll take what we can get. It does continue to have that summer-TV-popcorn-entertainment quality that has allowed it to build a loyal audience in the first place.

Meanwhile, CBS has also officially renewed “Big Brother” through season 20, which is a little less newsworthy just because they’d already spoken publicly as though this is happening and the next season is already in casting. Season 19 is coming this fall as a CBS All Access exclusive for people with the app, while the next season is going to air on the network this coming summer. We would hope that this could be an All-Star season given that it has been more then ten seasons since we’ve had a proper one.

We’re going to have some more news as always on the two shows over the coming days, so stay tuned!
