‘Chicago Fire’ season 5 premiere: What should happen

Chicago Fire -The first four seasons of “Chicago Fire” clearly did a great job of setting up not only the stories for many of these characters, but also an entire world. You’ve clearly done something right when you are able to help spawn three different spin-offs.

While we do enjoy many of those shows, and we do know that there is a new crossover romance coming this fall, we do hope for the O.G. show’s premiere they focus more on the people at Firehouse 51 and save some of the cross-show drama for a little date. For a little more on that, take a look below in the latest chapter of our What Should Happen article series.

Where we left off – After getting a very specific sort of offer from Susan Weller while pursuing politics, Casey decided to return to Dawson, who is in the process of fostering Louie, instead. Meanwhile, Severide and Kidd’s new relationship was very much stalled by a violent encounter with her ex, and they have to figure out now if this is something that they can work through. Finally, the other most notable highlight is Jimmy still processing his rage towards Boden, who he views as responsible for his brother’s death.

What should happen – You don’t have to do much more beyond just continue to cultivate these stories. Casey and Dawson’s relationship should be on more stable ground, and to us, giving them a few episodes to figure things out and introduce Louie to the world would be nice. There is plenty of room for drama elsewhere. We’d give Severide a chance to figure out what to do and if and Kidd can make this work despite each person having a very jaded past.

As for Jimmy and Boden, there needs to be a breaking point where either one of them leaves, or Jimmy starts to get past the pain and realize that Boden was just trying to do what he felt was right. This could be your big source of powerful material in the premiere. We’d also like to see a character like Herrmann get something big, but we’ll have to see if that happens.
