TV Quick Hits: ‘Powers’ canceled; ‘Power’ season 3 ratings; ‘Code Black’ season 2 casting

“Power” continues to stay strong – Let’s start off this edition of TV Quick Hits with some further evidence that “Power” season 3 is in the midst of a heck of a strong story arc.

The latest episode of the Starz drama from Sunday ended up drawing a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and then to go along with that 1.88 million viewers. This is a show that is skewing extremely young, and while that may not matter as much to a subscriber-supported network, we imagine that they still feel good that many of their viewers are within this group and incredibly engaged with the show.

Here’s the most remarkable thing about the ratings so far: Season 3 is up a huge 70% over season 2 in the demo, over over 58% in total viewers. We were skeptical about Starz moving shows to Sunday nights, but they have clearly proven us wrong.

“Powers” canceled – Unfortunately, the power is not with “Powers,” as the Playstation Network has opted to not renew the series for a second season. Co-writer Brian Michael Bendis confirmed the news with the post below on Twitter.

This series was in many ways a big risk for Sony in the first place as the service’s first scripted drama. We would’ve liked to see it continue, but hopefully this doesn’t mean that they stop looking at these sort of ideas.

“Code Black” season 2 casting – Finally, let’s turn to the CBS medical drama and the latest news that is coming out from there. According to Deadline, Kathleen Rose Perkins of “Episodes” fame has been cast as Amanda Nolan, a very success psychiatrist working within the hospital.
