‘Containment’ season 2 poll: Should The CW have renewed drama?

Tonight, The CW is airing the series finale of “Containment,” an event that they are billing now as a “limited series.” Was it always that case? Not entirely, but this is a great way to set up this last episode and structure it so that it feels like fans who watched will get some sort of conclusion to the story.

Further evidence that said closure is coming comes courtesy of executive producer Julie Plec, who said the following to TVLine recently:

“It doesn’t feel like you’re robbed of an experience … It just feels like it would be nice if you could stick around and watch these people live their lives a while longer.”

So could there have been a second season? If the ratings were better, probably, but at the same time we also do put a little bit of blame at the feet of The CW for not really giving this show a whole lot of an opportunity to really make it to another season in the first place. When it premiered after “The Flash” this spring, its ratings were at least solid, if not spectacular. However, the network just had so many other shows already renewed that it would have probably needed a runaway in order to be renewed. The cancellation news likely caused some to lose interest, and without a whole lot of attention or promotion this summer, it has been difficult for the series to find nearly as much footing. It just had a schedule that was really odd in that it wasn’t a part of any one defined part of the TV year.

Ultimately, we will never know how the show would have done had it received some sort of proper promotion, and that’s really a shame since it at one point it could’ve had more of a chance.
