‘Murder in the First’ season 3, episode 3 video: Terry struggles with ‘killer cop’ label
This past episode of “Murder in the First” on TNT proved to be a series of highs and lows for Taye Diggs and his character of Terry. Let’s start here with the positives: He and Hildy finally got together! It was a moment that was a long time coming, and it came out of their desire to suddenly live in the moment.
Unfortunately, now we have reason to worry it may be short-lived. Why? Let’s just say that for the immediate future, we could see the Terry character a little bit preoccupied with some other stuff going on. After all, he gunned down a suspect on this past episode, thinking that the person had a weapon and was fleeing from the scene. However, since that time there has bee claims the suspect was unarmed, and the city is in revolt over what happened.
The timing for Sunday night’s episode could not be any more unfortunate, given what has happened in the real world over the past week. Obviously the “Murder in the First” writers were aware of the tension between police and the public, but in the wake of multiple killings by police coupled with events in Dallas, things may be worse now than ever. It is important to remember that with this show, we are looking at fiction. It may be a realistic depiction, but we’re going to try to separate what happens to Terry from what is happening in real life. That is the only way to do the series justice as a work of television.
Tomorrow night, we will be back with a review for this episode. Be sure to come back for insight then.
