‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 4, episode 2 review: Run, but you can’t hide

Through two episodes of “Beauty and the Beast’s” fourth and final season, there is a very familiar theme emerging: If you are a beast in this world, it is not exactly easy to find a place to call your home. You are going to be targeted, and the same goes for who are close to you.

It is with this in mind that we have to pose an interesting question following “Beast Interrupted”: Are we playing this perhaps a little bit too safe? While it is fairly clear to us that the show works using the whole “mysterious threat is targeting Vincent” storyline, we would have almost preferred the writers going out on a limb and doing something a little bit different here. For example, how about telling a story that is a little bit more about how these two handle beasts being more out in the open, and the political ramifications that come along with that? Sure, that has been done by “X-Men” and some other franchises, but it would be interesting to get the “Beauty and the Beast” spin on it.

We did at least get a few new interesting elements in this hour, whether it be a story revolving around a modern-era celebrity who was more down-to-earth than she seemed, JT opting against tenure for the sake of his friends, and Heather realizing that for now, her love life needs to be on hold not just for her own safety, but for those close to her.

In the end, hiding appears to still be the strategy for Cat and Vincent. Blending into the background can work for now, but as we’ve come to see over four years, it only really works for a limited period of time. The is a consistent source of fun and we dig the characters, but we still hope there is a further evolution coming before the series finale. Grade: B-.
