‘The Voice UK’ season 6 reportedly targets ‘The X Factor’ alum Josh Daniel (to little effect)
We already had a pretty good sense as to how much “The Voice UK” was hurting when it comes to notable contestants. They’ve shown little hesitancy getting names on their series who are already notable names in the industry, such as Kevin Simm, or former reality TV contestants from elsewhere such as Lydia Lucy.
With the show moving to ITV and starting a new franchise there, you really should not be surprised that they are hard-pressed to find notable contestants … including one who has already been on the network before in Josh Daniel. Last year on “The X Factor,” it felt like a colossal mistake for Nick Grimshaw to turn away the singer, whose cover of “Jealous” turned him into a viral star all across the world. With that, “The Voice” has tried to capitalize on his success with an invitation to join the series, but that is not an offer he seems altogether keen on accepting.
For evidence, take a look at what a source close to The Sun had to say:
“He was recently asked to come back to the X Factor but politely declined. He’s spent the last six months holed up in the studio both in the UK and in America where he has been working with top secret names – he is flattered to be asked to take part in The Voice also but it’s not one for him.
“He’s not keen despite being guaranteed to be fast tracked through the audition process and has decided to decline their invitation as in addition to working on his debut album he’s also been drafted in to write for some other artists as well due to his strong contacts and affiliations with major players in the industry.”
While we do think the show could be helpful for keeping him in the spotlight, at the same time there’s benefit to giving a solo career a shot at this point without the help of a major record-machine. This way, he has more independence in what he wants to do; while there may not be any guarantee that his career works out on his own, he’s at a point now success-wise where it is a risk definitely worth taking.
As already reported, “The X Factor” will start filming soon with their judging panel of Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne, and Louis Walsh. We’ll have more news on that subject soon.
