‘Code Black’ season 2 makes another change, promotes Jillian Murray to regular
As we reported yesterday, the second season of “Code Black” on CBS is definitely in the process of undergoing some big changes. We’ve already lost two series regulars in Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey, and that is just the tip of the iceberg of what is being planned as we start to push forward for the series.
One of the latest announcements is that per Deadline, recurring player Jillian Murray is also going to be a regular moving forward on the series, and we now have a little bit more of a sense as to what the plan here is. Creator Michael Seitzman tells the website that the goal is to have the show mirror in many ways the authenticity of a hospital, and that includes continually having new doctors pop up while others leave to get to other places in their career:
“The concept of the show is for each season to begin on the first day for incoming freshman residents, just as in real life there is a cycle of residents coming in and residents either graduating or moving on … Another hallmark of the show is that our fictional hospital is intensely populated. Not only do we average 800 extras per episode, but we have a revolving cast of doctors and nurses who enter and exit the show regularly. Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey are beloved by the audience, as well as the rest of the cast and crew. Their departure is painful for us, is no reflection on the extraordinary work they both did on the show.”
Just reading the words “800 extras” here is astounding, but it is a reflection of just how busy real hospitals are in proportion to the number of doctors. If you’ve ever been to one of these places in a big city, you probably have a rather good idea as to just what we are talking about here.
The second season of “Code Black” will premiere on Wednesday nights this fall. Stay tuned for some further news, and head over here to secure some more TV news on all we cover, sent right over to you via our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: CBS.)
