‘Girl Meets World’ season 3 video: New opening may melt your heart

If you watch “Girl Meets World” for the characters and have no real knowledge of the original show “Boy Meets World” on which it is based, maybe the new opening theme may not do too much for you. However, if you watch the show because you watched the original version of the series and really loved it, then odds are this is probably going to produce a very specific reaction from you.

This introduction is somewhat of a mash-up of the intros that were created for seasons 5-7 of the original series, which featured Cory, Topanga, and many of their friends goofing off and having some fun. Here, it’s recreated using Riley, Maya, and some of the other characters in some fun / interesting ways. We dig the fact that everyone seems to have a really good time with this, and seems game to embrace the original spirit of the show.

Also, it probably helped that Ben Savage directed the new opening, and he would know it better than anyone after being such a big part of the original for the entirety of its run.

The third season of “Girl Meets World” premieres on Friday, and it’s going to focus on all of our main characters in high school for the first time. The show is following along a reasonable similar trajectory to the original in terms of the timing, even if they are in some ways a year or so behind. We still wonder how it will be possible for the show to continue to age with it being on the kid-friendly Disney Channel, but time will tell.
