‘Penny Dreadful’ season 3, episode 5 preview: Ethan and Hecate have a chat

On Sunday night’s new episode of “Penny Dreadful,” we’re going to have an episode that is going to put a major spotlight on Josh Hartnett’s character of Ethan, and it could lead to some rather glorious, fascinating drama.

For just the smallest tease of that right now, you don’t have to look any further than the sneak peek video! In this clip, you can see Ethan and Hecate continue their journey, and in the process she starts to ask him a series of questions regarding his past. She wonders what it is that compels him to press onward with his current quest, and why he is so intent on finding his father and facing off against him. He tries to explain (at least briefly) the reasoning behind his actions, and how his father wants him to answer for “what he’s done.”

From here, the conversation turns to forgiveness, and how in her eyes, the only way for him to really have that is by fully facing his sins and acknowledging them. She brings an interesting philosophy to the scene, which is why we are grateful that she is there.

As for just how the Ethan storyline is going to resolve itself moving forward, that is a particularly tremendous question! Unfortunately, it is one that we do not have a clear answer to at present. Maybe we will at the end of this upcoming episode; if nothing else, we’re going to have a review online not too long after it comes off the air.
