‘The Real World: Go Big or Go Home’ episode 11 review: Sabrina meets her mother
Given how frustrating “The Real World: Go Big or Go Home” has been at times during its run on MTV, isn’t it nice that the penultimate episode of the season at least tried to do something different when it comes to human development, giving us a meeting between Sabrina and her biological mother that was emotional and productive.
Through this conversation, Sabrina learned that her mother gave her up because she was 17 at the time, and wanted to go and live her life. She didn’t fault her for it, and seemed to be in the end incredibly understanding of the situation. Overall, it was a healing situation for her, and this at least gives us something interesting to write about for her given that she’s been in the background the majority of the season.
As for other fun moments this week, we had the end of the blanket fort (RIP), some partying, and a reminder that the journey is almost over … or maybe that’s a fun reminder for our sake, since this season has really made us angry most of the time.
This is why we’re yet again infuriated that the show cast someone like Jenna, knowing at least to some extent what she was like. Her actions and comments continue to be horrible, and if there was something worse than this, it was a phone conversation that included CeeJai’ being called something incredibly racist. This episode ended with a Jenna / CeeJai cliffhanger like no other, and it is NOT ending well.
Here’s the thing that really angered us about this: Why in the world does Jenna’s friend get off saying something so deplorably racist, and doesn’t have to show her face? Basically, she’s now the equivalent of a YouTube comment. That in alone makes most of the show inexcusable, even if we don’t want to bash the show because of the Sabrina segment. Grade: D+.
