‘The Real World’ season 32: Is MTV bringing back long-running show for another go?
Tonight, MTV is ending “The Real World” season 31 with a two-hour finale, one that is likely structured this way due to the shocking death of Prince earlier this year. Otherwise, we assume that it’d only be a one-hour episode.
Is this the final episode of this longtime reality staple tonight? It’s fair to ask the question, but ultimately, the answer appears most likely no be “no.” Technically, we have not heard MTV come out with a statement saying that the show is officially renewed, but at the same time, we know that there have been several casting calls and they are planning as though it could be coming back. It is a positive sign, but we must remind you at the same time that there have been other reality shows who’ve gone through this casting process and did not come back.
Do we want it back? Absolutely, mostly because this show changed reality television. It’s therefore unfortunate that the producers have abandoned so much of what made the show originally great: With an emphasis on characters more so than drama, and also legitimate stories rather than “tasks.” This show isn’t meant to be “Big Brother Canada,” and they would have never allowed physical violence back in the day.
Unfortunately, it’ll be some time before the show reveals a twist / format / anything of the sort if it comes back. For now, we’re probably going to spend tonight just trying to digest some of the frustrating things about this season, from a lack of real storylines to Jenna, who one of the more deplorable cast members in recent memory.
