Billboard Music Awards 2016: The Weeknd, Wiz Khalifa among winners (updated list)
The Billboard Music Awards are airing Sunday night, and there are a few things with this show that appeared to be somewhat of a foregone conclusion. For one, that we were going to see The Weeknd win a boatload of awards. How can you not when you’re nominated for almost twenty of them?
We’re going to offer some updates on the winners from the show over the course of the night, so refresh the page for some updates as the night progresses!
Top Hot 100 Award – The Weeknd. It’s nice to see the night start with a moving speech, as he specifically thanked one of his personal heroes in Prince, who gave him an award at one of his last TV appearances before his death.
Top Hot 100 Hit Award – Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Push, “See You Again.”
Top Country Song – Thomas Rhett, “I’m a Happy Man.”
Top Male Artist – Justin Bieber
Top Billboard 200 Album – Adele, “25.” Did you really need an award show to tell you that Adele sold a boatload of records?
Top R&B Song – The Weeknd, “The Hills”
Billboard Chart Achievement – Rihanna
Top Artist – Adele
Seriously, that’s the full list of highlights for the entire show. There were some others who were announced following the show, but this clearly does show that for the sake of entertainment, results are not top priority on the show … and we do understand that. Was every performance a hit? For the most part, we’d certainly say no, but it’s better than many lifeless acceptance speeches.
