‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 6 ratings steady in demo, down in total viewers

Outlander -Our weekly investigation into the “Outlander” season 2 ratings continues, and this time around, it really is a case of “good news, bad news.”

Let’s start with the bad part of this, mostly to get it out of the way: The show once again shed some viewers for its latest new episode on Saturday, at least in live+same day measures. A total of 1.03 million viewers caught the episode, which is the smallest audience this season. It’s also down slightly from the season 1 average of 1.04 million.

Is this any real cause for concern? Not really, given that we continually remind you that live+same day ratings are just a tiny snapshot of the show’s overall viewers. It’s just a jumping-off point, and sometimes it is more difficult to find more consolidated numbers. Remember that this show airs on a Saturday night, and in the spring it’s rather difficult to convince viewers to stay home.

Another issue here and there may just be people falling behind on episodes during the season, and they have to binge for a few days to catch back up. That’s why shows in around the middle of the season tend to draw smaller audiences than for the premiere and the finale.

Here’s the good news: The show did hold on to the entirety of its 18-49 audience with a 0.2 rating. Hopefully this will mark the low point of the season, and it will rise from here on out. We’ll continue to have updates the rest of the way, or at least until Starz orders a third season for the show. Hopefully, that happens sooner rather than alter so fans can breathe a little easier.
