‘Britain’s Got Talent’ preview: Can Ana and Fia destroy ‘family band’ stigma?
We’re going to come right out and say it: We really don’t like family bands on “Britain’s Got Talent” by and large. The vast majority of them, to be frank, are incredibly hokey. Many of them may have great stories, but there is not necessarily a direct correlation between spinning an emotional yarn and actually doing something to move us with your voice. More often than not, there’s always a weak link.
Here is where mother-daughter duo Ana and Fia stand out from the back. You can see the two in the sneak peek below perform a Barbra Streisand hit, and they’re fantastic! Great harmonies, great solo voices, and it doesn’t feel like there is a gimmick. These two could actually make it to the final on their own merit, and not just because voters want to see the story there.
Could they win? We cannot say that on the basis of one performance, but they may have a better shot than some of the frustrating family groups that make it further than they should. Those ones really feel like finale fodder more than anything else.
The same for these two is that with the Golden Buzzers for this season used up, they’re going to have to make it to the live shows still and combat another round of eliminations. It wouldn’t make sense for them to go home there, but there are always some incredibly baffling choices that the judges make at around this point.
