‘Britain’s Got Talent’ review: Meet Rachael Wooding, the Mimic Men, Boogie Storm, and more
There are a few things we did not expect to see on “Britain’s Got Talent” this weekend, but one of the biggest ones was a surprise appearance from none other than a “Doctor Who” character! That’s one of the things we’re going to focus on in the live review for this episode below.
Davros – For one, it’s “The Doctor,” not “Doctor Who” in the way in which he introduced the act. We’re also surprised that ITV is so openly promoting a BBC show. This was utter silliness, a guy dressed like a sci-fi character singing “Love Shack.” It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t exactly great either. Hey, it’s filler for the live shows. We’ve certainly have worse make it to the live shows.
The dancing polar bear – What was this? We have no clue, but we were oddly compelled.
Tumar KR – This actually didn’t really deserve to be in the “weird act” montage. It was legitimately good. Really tight, strong choreography from the four guys. We think it could actually get votes in a live show.
Anne Klinge – She does puppets with her feet! It’s completely random, but at the same time oddly entertaining in its weird way. Here’s the issue with something like this: How do you continue to reinvent it? Have we already seen the best that it has to offer?
The Garnett Family – We do think that there were a few bum notes in this performance, but at the same time, there was something so sweet and genuine about this. It’s hard to really hand down any larger complaint about this family band, who we think have a great chance of getting votes in the live rounds.
Scott Nelson – This looked like a complete disaster act, but it turned out that this was a comedy magician who was intentionally trying to have everything go wrong so that his trick at the end would be more shocking: That he made a real woman out of pieces.
The Mimic Man – Very simple presentation for impressions using the alphabet. It’s impressive that they have this wide of a base, but they may need to show off even more if they want to get votes in the next round, especially since they can’t just do the alphabet again.
Rachael Wooding – The former stage performer and mother really had a great opportunity to make a splash on this show, and we’re not even remotely shocked that she pulled something beautiful off here. It was subtle and haunting at times, but big and magnificent at others. It’s a vocal performance that could get her into the final.
Boogie Storm – Yes, Simon Cowell used his golden buzzer on a group of dancing stormtroopers … and we couldn’t be happier about it. This is pure novelty, but at the same time we at least love that it’s something different than the standard act. Also, it’s the first time Simon has used it on an act that is not a singer.
