‘NCIS’ season 13 confirms Michelle Obama appearance, offers up ‘Homefront’ details
While it was hardly much of a secret at this point that Michelle Obama would be appearing on an upcoming episode of “NCIS” season 13, we are happy to confirm that it is officially happening for the May 3 episode “Homefront.” We also have some further information regarding how this is coming about, and also the cause that it is connected to.
Obama’s appearance is in conjunction with the “Joining Forces” initiative, a way for Americans to offer support through various programs for both veterans and their families. In a statement, showrunner Gary Glasberg had the following to say about getting to film in DC, something that has been a rarity for the show even though it is set there:
“Filming inside the White House was a dream come true for the ‘NCIS’ cast and crew … It was such a pleasure working with First Lady Michelle Obama and it’s our honor to support the ‘Joining Forces’ initiative and the military families that benefit from it.”
CBS was also kind enough to go ahead and release a synopsis explaining more of what the story for this particular episode would be:
“First Lady Michelle Obama welcomes NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the wife of a Marine to the White House for a ‘Joining Forces’ roundtable with military spouses. The extras cast in the roundtable scene were actual military spouses.”
Ultimately, this episode sounds like a great way for the show to pay tribute to a cause, involve real-life military spouses, and do something that we really hoped that they would do before the end of the series. We know that there are more seasons still to come, but we are certainly happy to see this happen.
