USA Network uses ‘Mr. Robot’ season 2, ‘Suits’ season 6, more in rebranding
Today, we are here to say farewell to the “Characters Welcome” of USA Network, which actually is a little bit of an emotional thing for us to do. Some of the first cable programs we really got into so many years were ones like “Monk” and “Psych,” who were the pioneers of that slogan and represented it better than anyone. Back in the day, the network was mostly known for fun, breezy programming that showed off quirky people in unusual situations.
Ultimately, though, all things do change, and the same goes for this network, who is now trying to go in a more daring direction with shows like “Mr. Robot,” which is far more serious, edgy, and different than anything that aired before it. The last scripted show on the network that is still from that “Characters Welcome” era is “Royal Pains,” which is ending this year after eight seasons on the air.
Today, USA introduced a new slogan entitled “We the Bold,” something that the show is going to highlight using some characters like Elliot (Rami Malek) from “Mr. Robot” or Katie Bowman (Sarah Wayne Callies) from “Colony.” There are apparently plans in the future to also use Harvey Specter of “Suits” to further illuminate the change.
In a statement, here is what the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment president, entertainment networks Chris McCumber had to say about the change:
“From Mr. Robot to Colony to WWE, USA is actively taking big swings with programming that is more daring than ever before. ‘We The Bold’ reflects the kind of stories we want to tell–rich, captivating stories about unlikely heroes who defy the status quo, push boundaries and are willing to risk everything for what they believe in.”
