‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Russell Crowe, Leslie Jones have a few drinks

This weekend’s new episode of “Saturday Night Live” is being hosted by none other than Russell Crowe, and we felt almost from the very beginning like this was an interesting choice for host. Here is a guy who at one point was a perennial Oscar nominee, and despite his many talents he never hosted this show. We don’t know if that was a decision that he made or if he just wasn’t asked, but it was surprising all things considered.

So why now? We have no idea, but there are a couple of laughs to be found in the new sneak peek below. He and Leslie Jones have fun with the material given to him, and we do think that there was at least at one point here a slight deviation from the typical Leslie character. Typically, we don’t think the Leslie Jones we have come to see on this show would struggle at all throwing down drinks, so we like to think the show is at least trying to mix things up a little bit.

As for what we want to see from the show itself, it really comes down to wanting to see Crowe be as silly as humanly possible. We know that he can do big, bold, and super-intense, and there will probably be a sketch or two that plays into that. We also want to see him dancing about and wearing funny costumes, especially since he is coming after someone in Peter Dinklage who really went completely for it on his episode. He really wasn’t afraid to potentially embarrass himself, and the show was better for it (even if it was far from perfect in the end).
