‘Shameless’ season 7 spoilers: Will Dermot Mulroney return as Sean?

Coming out of the season 6 finale of “Shameless” on Sunday night, there is probably one prevailing feeling above all else: Depression. We don’t know how you can necessarily say anything otherwise when you consider that the finale ended with Frank metaphorically burning everything to the ground, blasting Sean as an addict, and ruining Fiona’s wedding. Maybe there’s a part of him that has okay intentions, but his execution and selfishness in how he carries out these acts are pretty much terrible.

Now, we’re looking towards the future of the show, and we have no idea what it holds … especially for Dermot Mulroney, who played such a big part this season. Speaking per TVLine, executive producer Nancy Pimental made it clear that the actor’s schedule could play some role in the actor’s future on the show:

“We just started talking about Season 7, so I don’t have any specifics yet. It’s like real life versus fictional life. Obviously, Dermot got a pilot, so that might inform how much we do with them. We, certainly, are entertaining more stories with them, but they kind of go hand in hand… But certainly, as of right now, it’s the end of them, for sure.”

The reality here is that it’s going to take a while for Fiona and Frank to probably recover from this, and who knows? Maybe she will be single for a while after this, which is something we know Emmy Rossum and others have lobbied for.

On a different note, we really hope that Lip actually goes to rehab next season. We’re probably on the downward slope of the series, and we want to at least see some people have happy endings.
