‘The Fosters’ season 3 finale review: Callie’s speech, Brandon’s future, and more

“The Fosters” has a knack for having big finales. Granted, the one last season is one that we’d like to forget since it led to one of the more confusing premieres in recent memory.

This time around, we feel like the Freeform drama ended with a variety of different surprises, whether it be Jude potentially forming an interest in Taylor and further trying to defy labels to Callie making a huge move that separated herself from Justina. She realized that she was actually working for a company that could make things even worse for foster kids, and she spoke out against her at her big Fost-and-Found launch party. The drawback to this, unfortunately, is that now Callie has reporters coming after her, and she has to account for how she learned the truth about something she was not meant to know a thing about. Justina is now out for revenge, and Callie’s going to have a hard time fighting back.

As for Jude, he admitted that some of his Taylor interest was due to feeling almost like God didn’t want him to be gay, given that Connor left and Jack died. That’s when Callie told him the truth about why Jack kissed him. Jude did kiss her, but we didn’t see the response just yet.

Elsewhere, Nick learned some not-so-welcome news about Mariana and Mat, and it’s fair to say that he’s not handling it well. However, at the same time we know that Mariana totally blew her own handling of the issue, and really should have moved quicker out of sensitivity. Brandon decided that he was going to use some of the money that he was saving for Julliard to help Cortney get a better start in life by paying the first and last month’s rent on a new house.

The one other problem we haven’t mentioned in here just yet? Lena’s trouble at work after it was revealed that Gabe was allowed to work on sets for the musical. Even if he has a complicated reason for being a registered sex offender, the facts are still the facts.

For us, we found this to be as solid an ending as “The Fosters” could have. It tied up most stories, and gave us reasons to be excited for the future. Grade: A-.
