‘Shameless’ season 6: Emmy Rossum sets up key Fiona – Sean story
In speaking about this dynamic further to TVLine, Emmy Rossum hints at how she will have some obvious distrust in Frank wanting to do something good for a change:
“[This Sunday’s episode] is particularly interesting because of how the dynamic between Fiona and Frank flips on its head … We see, for the first time, Frank is quite interested in parenting, being part of the wedding. For what reason, we’re not really sure. Fiona finds herself really wanting to lean into that affection and not trusting it.”
During this chat Rossum also made it clear that she would love to see the character be single for a time after being paired up with so many people, though her own abandonment issues from the past may play a part in that not happening (at least to this point):
“I keep saying to our producers, ‘Why is she never single?’ I say every single season, ‘Why do we keep putting her with these guys? Can’t we have four episodes where she’s single?’ Women are single! They don’t just bridge from one guy to another. Some girls do, and Fiona does, but I would love to see her struggle with nobody.”
Ultimately, we’ll see what happens here with Sean, given that it’s always possible that she ends up single at the end of all this. There is always plenty of room for flux when it comes to this show.
