‘Mr. Robot’ season 2 spoilers: Show boss on Elliot’s inner struggle
We imagine that production on “Mr. Robot” season 2 so far has to feel incredibly different from what it was the first time around. Last year, the show had a more insular experience given that it had yet to air, and no one really had too great of an idea as to what the show was or what to expect from it.
However, that has changed dramatically going into its second season, as viewers and critics alike know that this is one of the most well-written, thought-provoking dramas out there, and the complicated story of Elliot is a compelling one. He’s a man who, unaware to his own consciousness, has been split between two different sides, and now has to figure out what all of it means.
In detailing some of this struggle that Rami Malek’s character faces over the course of the episodes ahead, the architect of the series in creator Sam Esmail had the following to say to Entertainment Weekly:
“Now that Elliot is aware [of the truth about Mr. Robot], that has opened the door. We’re literally externalizing Elliot’s mentality and his inner conflict, Mr. Robot being the other half of Ellio. In the first season, because Elliot wasn’t aware, there was a mystery about who Mr. Robot was and what his real motivations were. Now we know, so what does that mean? What does Elliot really want?”
Given that we’re still fairly new into this journey, we imagine that this is something that will take Elliot some time to figure it out. Also, there are probably a few more unexpected twists along the way. It would not be “Mr. Robot” if the show ran in a completely-linear fashion.
