Potential ‘Nashville’ season 5 would have new showrunners
While it is not exactly confirmed at present that “Nashville” is going to receive a fifth season on the air, rest assured that if it does, it is going to have two new people at the helm in the place of showrunner Dee Johnson.
As first reported by TVLine, “My So-Called Life” and “thirtysomething” creators Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick would oversee a fifth season of the show if it is ordered by ABC. The report claims that such a move is “likely,” even if this does constitute the show’s final season. It was missing from a recent string of mass renewals by ABC, but one thing that could help its cause at present is the woeful ratings of many other shows on the network as of late. Suddenly, “Nashville” does not look quite so bad in comparison.
It’s not often that we are particularly high on showrunner swaps, mostly because this can be an extremely difficult thing for a show to do and still have people on board who understand the original tone and how to even evolve on that in a good way. With Marshall and Ed, the show couldn’t have gotten it more right. While these two may not have ever taken over a show that they did not create before, they’re extremely talented people who know a thing or two about running properties with small, loyal audiences. They should be great, and find a way to appeal to everyone out there who loves the show already.
If season 5 of “Nashville” ends up getting ordered, it could premiere as early as the fall. Stay tuned…
