‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3 spoilers: Simmons’ guilt
There are many reasons to enjoy “Agents of SHIELD” as a series, but we feel personally like one of the things that the show does best is remind you constantly that these heroes, superpowers are not, are still humans. They feel bad over certain decisions that they make, they celebrate their achievements, and certain things do stick with them. They act just like anyone would in their situation rather than acting as though their hearts and minds are made of some sort of impervious titanium.
Now that we’ve said all of this, let’s get to posing what is one of the larger questions right now when it comes to the rest of season 3: How is Simmons reacting to the fact that Ward is now Hive? Her obsession with getting back to Maveth was in some ways a launching-off point for much of this, and it is something that Elizabeth Henstridge describes in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“She’s going to feel so guilty, because it was her that aided that all to happen … If she hadn’t of got sucked into the monolith, if she hadn’t been on that planet, if Fitz hadn’t risked everything to save her, he would never be back here. She didn’t think Ward could get any worse, but he did, and it’s kind of her fault, in a way. She definitely feels guilt for that.”
As for how explicitly we can expect Simmons to project some of these feelings over the course of the upcoming episodes, that is something that we still don’t have a really clear answer to as of yet. It may just be something that simmers underneath the surface for a little while before exploding outward.
