ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 14 reaction: Portia de Rossi on Elizabeth, David, Susan

If you would have told us going into this season of “Scandal” that we would have had a love triangle of sorts break out in between Susan Ross, David Rosen, and Elizabeth North, we really do not know what in the world we would have told you. The idea is so ridiculous on paper, but upon seeing it, it really actually works.

What also makes it interesting to us is that there could be a big part of being with Susan that actually appeals to David more, even if he is really only doing it as a means to try to influence her on certain things that Liz wants hammered down. In speaking (per Variety) recently about this past episode and the blossoming relationship between Susan and David, Portia de Rossi had the following message to pass along about where her character of Liz stands:

“I think his interest in Susan is slightly unexpected … I don’t know if I’d go as far to say jealous, but she’s curious. It takes a lot for Lizzy for get unhinged. I think she’s going to pull herself out of the depths of what it could possibly be and just keep manipulating.”

As for whether or not this sort of manipulation has its limits, that does very much remain to be seen. We’re excited to see the rest of this particular journey unfold just because it almost feels like an old-school romance for the show, given that David by the end of it could actually want to be with the better person (or maybe at least that is the idealist in us), but may not have much of an opportunity to do so without causing the whole situation to detonate. Ultimately, we anticipate trouble and plenty of it.
