‘Arrow’ season 4: Why there is no ‘Supergirl’ crossover taking place

Oliver -

Later this month, “The Flash” and “Supergirl” are going to be connected for the first time thanks to an episode of the latter show entitled “Worlds Finest,” which will feature Barry Allen somehow transferring there from another universe.

So is there a chance that someday Oliver Queen and the world of “Arrow” could also collide with Kara Zor-El? In theory, yes, but as executive producer Greg Berlanti explained recently (per Deadline) while at PaleyFest, there is a reason why it hasn’t happened yet:

“We needed to create a way to do it. We had to introduce Superman since you’ve heard about him and you’ve heard about Supergirl, but in the worlds of Arrow and Flash, they didn’t exist in that world. We introduced the multiverse in The Flash this year, and that was always our way in.”

The simple explanation here is that if Supergirl had suddenly turned up on Earth-1, it wouldn’t make any sense that she had not been brought up before now … or at least Superman, if nothing else, given that he was there before her in Metropolis. Putting these people in separate universes is a good way to do that, but the trick here is that if you ever want to do something with “Arrow,” you either have to find a way to get Kara over to his world, or get Oliver to hers. Since neither one of them know how to travel between different parts of the multiverse at the moment, this is no easy task.
