‘The Walking Dead’ season 6, episode 13 reaction: Melissa McBride on Carol’s mindset

Carol -

On Sunday night’s new episode of “The Walking Dead,” we ultimately saw a scenario unfold where Carol and Maggie did everything humanly possible to survive. This meant them having to take out a countless number of Saviors, and while they emerged on the other side, it would be wrong to label them as unscathed. Carol specifically feels like in the process of doing everything that they did, she lost a further part of her soul. This is something that has been chipped more and more away over time, and we feel like that is ultimately going to continue.

In speaking about what exactly Carol is going through right now in a postmortem interview with TheWrap, Melissa McBride had the following to say:

“Right now she’s struggling to understand what’s the right thing to do … She gets it. You have to kill to survive. But do we always have to kill? She’s taking stock of the people she’s had to kill and the circumstances around it. She’s second guessing herself and probably feeling like a monster.”

Let’s hope that by the end of the next few episodes, we get a chance to FINALLY see Negan (the real one), and see how Carol and many of the other characters handle being around him. We know that for the most part the critical reception on tonight’s episode is super-strong, but we personally felt like there was a lot of hurry-up-and-wait moments in it before we got around to the good stuff near the end of the hour.
