‘Suits’ star Gina Torres lands new pilot; does this change season 6 prospects?
As if what happened to Mike Ross was not enough to stun us as a lifelong “Suits” supporter, we now have the following bit of news, as well.
According to a report from Deadline, series regular Gina Torres (Jessica Pearson) has been tapped to play the title role in “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez,” a new pilot for ABC from Charise Castro Smith and “Agent Carter” producers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters. It is a revenge drama that is very about about Torres’ character, a Cuban immigrant, attempting to achieve the American Dream. Given the premise, we would understand why Torres would want the part; it’s an incredible role, even though the show has not been picked up as of yet to series.
As to what this means for Gina’s future on the USA series, the same report says that he will remain a huge part of the upcoming sixth season, but Jessica could eventually be “phased out” so that she would have time to do the new show. We’ll admit that there is a part of us that feels disappointed by this, given that the tight ensemble is one of the reasons why this show has been so fantastic over the years. Yet, who knows? Maybe the change could be reinvigorating; “Suits” creator Aaron Korsh has a deal that goes into season 7, so we have a hard time imagining that this upcoming season will be the show’s last.
Season 6 of “Suits” will premiere this summer; if this new pilot is picked up, it will likely air during the 2016-17 season.
