NBC’s ‘The Voice’ premiere review: Alisan Porter, Abby Celso, Bryan Bautista kick off season 10

The Voice -

Fans of “The Voice,” rejoice! The new season is here, and based on the first artists we’ve had a chance to see during the premiere episode, it’s already clear that there is some talent. That’s nice to know, since the last thing we’d want is suffer through almost two hours before we got to someone we’d genuinely consider worth out rime.

We’ll be updating this article more with some successful artists as the night goes on, so be sure to refresh!

Paxton Ingram, “Dancing on My Own” – Beautiful song. The Calum Scott rendition from “Britain’s Got Talent” will probably always remain our favorite, but we like the soul and the passion here. What surprises us is the choice, since Blake Shelton often tends to side with the country artists when faced with tough decisions after the Blinds. Team Blake.

Caity Peters, “Jealous” – Another excellent song choice. Beautiful performance, as she made the most out of her time on stage and got plenty of people to turn around for her. This pick when it comes to coach was certainly more expected. Team Pharrell.

Mary Sarah, “Where the Boys Are” – Stop us when this sounds familiar. It’s a country singer who went out there and picked Blake Shelton. Who’s shocked by this? Well, the answer is “nobody.” She’s got a little strain on the high notes, but for the most part this was solid. Team Blake.

Mike Schiavo, “Talking Body” – It’s funny that as good as his audition was, he’ll probably be remembered more for doing the duet with Adam Levine afterwards … which really made this the most predictable audition result in the history of … well, ever. Team Adam.

Bryan Bautista, “The Hills” – It’s the singing usher again! (No, not the former coach Usher.) Love the song for him, choosing something current that will show off his full range and his soul. In what was the continuation of a trend tonight, this was a no-brainer for him to pick the one coach who hadn’t seen him audition yet. Team Christina.

Abby Celso, “Should’ve Been Us” – Really great low register in particular. Abby delivered on one of our favorite performances so far (granted, it’s only one episode), and her audition continued an interesting trend this season of coaches campaigning hard for each other. Team Pharrell.

John Gilman, “Don’t Be Cruel” – It’s a rare single-chair turn! John’s a throwback, and we think that Adam’s old-school musical sensibility was one of the reasons why he chose to turn around. Team Adam.

Alisan Porter, “Blue Bayou” – The final audition of the night. The “Curly Sue” star delivered with a fantastic performance in closing the show, and every coach wanted to bring her over to her team. She may help Christina be the first woman to win. Team Christina.
